ARRIVAL PLANNING

Vietnam Airport Transfers

Decide before you land whether you want a private transfer, taxi, ride-hailing car, shuttle or airport bus. The best choice depends less on the airport itself and more on your arrival time, luggage and final hotel location.

YOUR OPTIONS

Choose the transfer style that fits the arrival

Best for a smooth first arrival

Pre-booked private transfer

A driver meets you at a confirmed pickup point and takes you directly to your hotel. Particularly useful with luggage, children or a late arrival.

Best for flexible city transfers

Taxi / ride-hailing

Usually practical at the major airports. Follow the airport's designated pickup zones and confirm your terminal and meeting point.

Best for value

Airport bus / shuttle

Useful where the route matches your hotel area. It costs less but may add waiting time and a final walk or taxi connection.

Best for resorts and Hoi An

Hotel-arranged car

A strong option when the hotel is outside the main city, or when you prefer the property to coordinate the arrival directly.

Typical airport transfer times

Use these as itinerary-planning ranges rather than guaranteed journey times. Traffic, weather and resort location can all change the final transfer.

HAN · Nội BàiCentral Hanoi / Old Quarter≈ 27 km≈ 45–60+ minPrivate transfer · taxi · ride-hailing · airport busTraffic can materially change the journey time. Bus 86 also connects the airport with central Hanoi and Hanoi Railway Station.
DAD · Da NangDa Nang city / beach area≈ 5 km≈ 15–30 minPrivate transfer · taxi · ride-hailingOne of Vietnam's easiest airport-to-city transfers because the airport is very close to central Da Nang.
DAD · Da NangHoi An Ancient Town≈ 29 km≈ 45–60 minPrivate transfer · hotel car · shuttle · taxiPre-booking becomes more useful here because Hoi An is well beyond central Da Nang and many travellers arrive with luggage.
SGN · Tân Sơn NhấtDistrict 1 / central Ho Chi Minh City≈ 8 km≈ 30–60+ minPrivate transfer · taxi · ride-hailing · busThe distance is short but city traffic can be slow. Confirm the correct terminal and pickup area before meeting your driver.
CXR · Cam RanhNha Trang≈ 30–36 km≈ 35–60 minPrivate transfer · taxi · shuttleCam Ranh is well outside central Nha Trang, so this is a good route to pre-book when arrival convenience matters.
DLI · Liên KhươngDa Lat≈ 30 km≈ 30–45 minPrivate transfer · taxi · airport shuttleThe airport sits south of Da Lat. A booked car is useful for late arrivals or hotels away from the city centre.
PQC · Phu QuocDuong Dong / central west coast≈ 10 km≈ 15–25 minPrivate transfer · taxi · resort transferTransfer time depends heavily on your resort location; properties farther north or south can take considerably longer.

Transfer times are rounded planning estimates. For a flight departure, add a sensible traffic buffer on top of the airline's recommended airport arrival time.

PRE-BOOK OR ARRANGE ON ARRIVAL?

When advance booking is worth it

You do not need to pre-book every airport ride. It becomes much more useful when the arrival has extra moving parts.

  • You arrive late at night or very early in the morning.
  • Your hotel is outside the main city — for example Hoi An, a beach resort or a remote island property.
  • You are travelling with several bags, children or a larger group.
  • You want a fixed meeting point rather than arranging transport after landing.
  • Your next activity has a fixed start time and you want the airport leg organised in advance.

How to make the pickup smoother

01

Confirm the airport code and terminal

Vietnam's major cities can have multiple terminals, and Ho Chi Minh City now has an expanded domestic-terminal setup. Check your flight details before arranging pickup.

02

Match the pickup instructions

A booked transfer should tell you where the driver waits — arrivals hall, numbered pillar, parking area or designated app pickup zone.

03

Allow immigration and baggage time

For international arrivals, choose a pickup window that accounts for immigration, baggage collection and customs rather than the scheduled landing time alone.

04

Keep the booking contact handy

Save the provider's phone or messaging contact and your booking reference before landing so you can coordinate if the flight is delayed.

HANOI

Airport bus can be genuinely useful

Noi Bai's official transport information lists several public routes, including Bus 86 between the airport and Hanoi Railway Station. If your hotel is near its route and you are travelling light, it can be a straightforward alternative to a car.

HO CHI MINH CITY

Use the designated pickup area

Tân Sơn Nhất publishes licensed taxi, ride-hailing and contracted-car operators. Follow the pickup instructions for your selected service because the airport uses specific lanes and pickup zones.
