CENTRAL VIETNAM

Where to Stay in Hue

Stay close to restaurants in Phu Hoi, near the Citadel for history, or beside the Perfume River for a calmer setting.

CHOOSING AN AREA

Start with the neighborhood, then pick the hotel

Hue is compact enough that you do not need to stay beside every attraction. The main decision is whether you want restaurant and café convenience on the south bank, a heritage-focused stay near the Imperial City, or a quieter riverside atmosphere.

AREA BY AREA

Best areas to stay in Hue

01
BEST FOR · First visits · Dining · Nightlife

Phu Hoi

The most convenient visitor district on the south bank, close to restaurants, cafés and evening activity.

  • Easy dining and café access
  • Good range of hotels
  • Convenient for walking around the modern centre
Keep in mind: The liveliest streets can feel busy at night.
02
BEST FOR · History · Atmosphere · Walking

Citadel / north bank

Stay closer to the Imperial City and traditional neighbourhoods for a more heritage-focused experience.

  • Excellent for early Citadel visits
  • Quieter local atmosphere
  • Good for history-focused itineraries
Keep in mind: There are fewer tourist-oriented restaurants than around Phu Hoi.
03
BEST FOR · Views · Couples · Comfortable stays

Perfume River south bank

Hotels along and near the river balance central access with open views and an evening promenade feel.

  • Pleasant river walks
  • Convenient access to both sides of the city
  • Good range of mid-range and upscale stays
Keep in mind: A river-view room may cost noticeably more than a similar room a few streets inland.
04
BEST FOR · Quiet stays · Local feel · Longer visits

Vy Da

A calmer area east of the centre, useful if you prefer residential surroundings over the busiest visitor streets.

  • More relaxed atmosphere
  • Good for slower trips
  • Easy taxi ride to central sights
Keep in mind: Less convenient if you want to walk to restaurants and nightlife every evening.
BUDGET

Hotel pricing

Hue has a broad mix of guesthouses, boutique hotels and larger riverside properties. Central stays can still be good value compared with Vietnam's largest cities, while river-view rooms and heritage-style resorts command more.

LOCATION

Getting around

Central Hue is walkable in parts, but the royal tombs and several major sights are spread outside the centre. Taxis, ride-hailing and private cars are useful for a full sightseeing day.
